Please tell us about your role in your current organisation.
Being a retail pharmacist is a whole different ball game. Unlike working in a hospital, retail pharmacy emphasises supplement knowledge. My job is to make sure stock is sufficient for daily sales, dispensing of medications, counselling of medications, answering customer queries and staff training.
Why did you choose Monash?
Monash University is a reputable university, and Monash Malaysia provides world-class teaching at an affordable rate. The campus is also strategically located in Sunway City.
How have your studies at Monash helped to prepare you for the working world?
Monash provided me with great lecturers who shared their working experience as well as their knowledge. We also learned from visiting lecturers as well as internships in various pharmacy settings that gave me insight into my future profession.
Can you describe your student experience?
It was a fun-filled journey that can never be replicated. Being the former president of the Monash University Pharmacy Society (MUPhaS) has not only taught me about friendship, it also taught me about leadership and teamwork. Both are important in the pharmacy profession. Having our own virtual pharmacy was also an eye opener. It showed how pharmacy has evolved over the decades of practice into the digital era.
What did you enjoy most about your student life?
I loved the teaching environment at Monash. Our lecturers were easy to approach and study materials were readily available online, such as recorded lectures. I also loved the library as it gave us a place to study or relax in peace. The sports complex and the student lounges were also my favourite spots, where we get to work out and mingle with friends.
What was most challenging?
The syllabus, of course! Being one of the best pharmacy schools in the world, it is no surprise that our pharmacy studies require hard work.
What was most memorable?
Joining the Nottingham University inter-pharmacy competition and MUPhaS emerging champions.
What would be the one word to sum it all up?
Eye-opener.
What is your advice to Monash students?
Take up part-time jobs when you’re in university or when you’re doing your pre-registration. It would be of help in your career later!
