Monash and My Myracle Join Forces for IBS Research

In a significant stride towards innovative healthcare research, Monash University Malaysia has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with My Myracle Sdn Bhd. The MOA, signed on 10 July 2024 at Monash University Malaysia, marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to advance the understanding and treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) through postbiotics.

The primary objective of this partnership is to conduct a randomised control trial research focusing on postbiotics and their impact on IBS. Postbiotics, bioactive compounds produced during the fermentation process of probiotics, have recently gained attention for their potential health benefits, particularly in gut health. This research collaboration aims to shed light on how postbiotic consumption can influence the immune response and gut microbiome in IBS patients.

The core of this partnership is a comprehensive clinical trial designed to evaluate the effects of daily postbiotic consumption on individuals suffering from IBS. Over a period of three months, the study will compare the immune response and gut microbiome profiles of IBS patients consuming postbiotics to those taking a placebo. This comparative approach will help identify any significant differences and potential benefits of postbiotics in managing IBS symptoms.

The study is particularly relevant given the increasing prevalence of IBS, a chronic gastrointestinal disorder characterised by symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits. By exploring the therapeutic potential of postbiotics, this research could lead to more effective and targeted treatments for IBS, improving the quality of life for millions of sufferers worldwide.

My Myracle's involvement in this groundbreaking study is substantial, providing both financial and material support. The company will fund the research and supply the necessary trial postbiotics. This funding will facilitate the meticulous execution of the study, ensuring that all aspects of the research are thoroughly conducted and analysed.

The MOA was officially signed by Professor Dato' Dr Ir Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan, Vice President (Research and Development) at Monash University Malaysia, and Chin Kok Tian, Managing Director of My Myracle Sdn Bhd. Both leaders expressed their optimism and commitment to the partnership, highlighting the potential impact of their collaborative efforts on the scientific and medical communities.
