Monash University's dialogue with Malaysia's Prime Minister
In a move to strengthen ties between Monash University and Malaysia, Professor Sharon Pickering, Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, had the pleasure of meeting Malaysia's Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim at the sidelines of the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne this week. Joining her were Professor Dato' Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia, and Ben Vivekanandan, Senior Director of Precincts and Government.
The meeting highlighted Monash University's dedication to forging closer bonds with Malaysia, not just in academia but also in promoting innovation, understanding, and connectivity across the wider Indo-Pacific region.
With a focus on Monash University Malaysia's pivotal role in realising Malaysia's Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, discussions revolved around boosting innovation through research collaborations and partnerships with industries, as well as enhancing education and training standards.
Engaging talks were also held with Youth & Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, exploring opportunities for collaboration to tackle social issues among young people through various capacity-building programs. Similarly, conversations with the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry centred on educational, training, and research partnerships with industries, especially in clean energy, digital technology, and vaccine research and development.
This meeting signifies a significant milestone in Monash University's ongoing commitment to Malaysia's progress and development. With its wealth of expertise, resources, and global reach, Monash is well-positioned to contribute significantly to Malaysia's vision for prosperity while nurturing strong ties between Malaysia and Australia.
