Monash University Malaysia and Malaysian Rubber Council establish partnership to advance rubber innovation

Monash University Malaysia and the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the inaugural MRC Industry Leadership & Networking Dinner, held at The Westin Kuala Lumpur on 20 August 2026.
The dinner brought together government representatives, industry leaders and strategic partners to strengthen collaboration and explore new opportunities for Malaysia’s rubber products industry. During the event, MRC exchanged five memoranda with strategic partners to accelerate innovation, support the commercialisation of new technologies and develop higher-value rubber products.

The event was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Plantation and Commodities. It was also attended by MRC Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Sri Mohamad Suparadi bin Md Noor, MRC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Eizaaz Dato’ Muhammad Redzuan and representatives from government, industry and academia.
In her address, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini called on the industry to accelerate innovation, strengthen supply-chain resilience and expand market access.

“We must build on our existing strengths and reinforce Malaysia’s position as a preferred global supplier of innovative, sustainable and high-quality rubber products,” she said.
Through the Monash–MRC partnership, MRC will facilitate industry matching and support the commercialisation of Monash’s rubber and glove innovations. The collaboration will connect Monash researchers with manufacturers and enable closer engagement on the practical application of new technologies.
Professor Anthony Guo, Head of the School of Engineering and School of Information Technology at Monash University Malaysia, said the partnership would strengthen the connection between university research and industrial needs.
Rubber and glove innovations developed by Colloids and Polymers Group, Monash University Malaysia including smart self-healing, ultrathin and hydrating gloves, showcased at the MRC exhibition booth during IRGCE 2026.
“This collaboration brings together Monash’s engineering research capabilities and MRC’s industry knowledge and networks. It will help us better understand manufacturing needs and work with industry to develop practical and sustainable technologies for Malaysia’s rubber products sector,” Professor Guo said.
