The university welcomed students and industry representatives to MIND ENGINE Expo 2026, marking the fifth edition of the student-led career fair and research showcase. Organised by the Monash University Malaysia Engineering Club (MUMEC) and Monash University Malaysia Technology Club (MUMTEC), the four-day Expo was the culmination of a two-week career initiative designed to connect Engineering and Information Technology students with industry while supporting their professional growth.
Ahead of the Expo, the SOE X SOIT Career Series was held. Sessions with Western Digital and British Petroleum (BP) offered practical guidance on internships, graduate recruitment and the transition from university to the workplace. The series continued throughout the week with talks involving Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik (AT&S) Malaysia, Inchz IoT, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Rooftop Energy, Shopee and tawk.to, alongside an alumni session.

The MIND ENGINE Expo 2026 officially opened on 3 August, with Professor Anthony Guo, Head of the Schools of Engineering and Information Technology, welcoming attendees and highlighting the event's growth, which brought together more than 40 participating companies. “This is now a flagship student event, organised by students for students, and supported by industry and the schools. It is a fantastic platform for student leaders to develop their organisational and leadership skills, including planning, communication, logistics and fundraising,” said Professor Anthony.

Following the welcoming address, the day-one Expo was officially launched through a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In a distinctive start to the four-day event, a robot dog, operated by a School of Information Technology student, delivered the ribbon to the stage.
Recognition trophies were subsequently presented to the event’s official partner and participating sponsors, including BP Malaysia, Deloitte Malaysia, Rooftop Energy and Shopee.

Each day of the Expo featured a different opening ceremony and launch gimmick. Professor Wong Kok Sheik, Deputy Head of School (Research) at the School of Information Technology, delivered the welcoming address on day-two, with Professor Ir Dr Edwin Tan Chee Pin, Head of the Electrical and Robotics Engineering Department at the School of Engineering, delivering the welcoming address on day-three and Associate Professor Vishnu Monn Baskaran, Deputy Head of School (Education) at the School of Information Technology, for the final day.
The same itinerary continued across all four days. Following each opening ceremony, company representatives were invited to join guided tours of the university’s teaching and research facilities. The tours provided an overview of the laboratories, makerspaces, and learning environments that support Engineering and Information Technology education and research at the university.

From 10am to 4pm on each event day, the Rock and Porch areas hosted career fair booths featuring a rotating line-up of participating companies. Students could speak directly with industry representatives, learn about internship and graduate opportunities, and gain a better understanding of the skills and experience employers seek. Clubs and societies from the Schools of Engineering and Information Technology also participated in the Engineering and Information Technology Expo.
The Research Showcase Live Demo, held from 11 am to 12 pm at the Library Exhibition Area, featured projects by undergraduate and postgraduate students from both schools. The program also included company meet-and-greet sessions, providing further opportunities for participating employers, students and student organisations to connect.

MIND ENGINE Expo 2026 showcased the value of collaboration among students, academics and industry in preparing graduates for an evolving professional landscape, while also reflecting the university’s commitment to preparing students for the future.
