The launch was officiated by Professor Dato’ Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia, who welcomed guests and valued partners, including Dato’ Lat and his wife, Datin Faezah Ahmad Zanzali, alongside representatives from Thermos, StoreHub, 13 Media, Stream Enterprise (New Era) and DHL Express Malaysia. She also acknowledged colleagues from Monash Malaysia and Monash Australia for their contributions to bringing the Monash Shop to life.
In her address, Professor Adeeba highlighted the University’s Back to Blue initiative, which celebrates Monash blue as a distinctive and enduring expression of its identity. She also emphasised the importance of product quality in reflecting the standards associated with the Monash brand.
“As with everything we do at Monash, we want to make sure that it’s done well. The brands we have chosen to showcase at The Monash Shop, along with the quality of the T-shirts, reflect [the standards] we expect from Monash,” she said.
Roshana shares the reasons behind The Monash Shop's success.
Roshana Eric Nanayakkara, Chief Operating Officer and Registrar at Monash University Malaysia, highlighted three defining elements of Monash Shop: its connection to Monash Australia, the partnerships behind the initiative, and the incorporation of Malaysian creativity and art.
“Monash Australia is a very big global brand, but what we bring together is the local context into the brand,” he said. “I would like to thank our partners for the connection we have built and for the time they have spent with us, sharing their ideas, expertise, and experience to make this happen.”

Roshana also drew attention to Malaysian creativity and art in the collection. A key expression of this is the collaboration with Dato’ Lat, which brings the renowned Malaysian cartoonist’s distinctive illustrations and satirical observations of Malaysian life to The Monash Shop.
In appreciation of the collaboration, Professor Adeeba presented a gift to Dato’ Lat. This was followed by a student fashion show showcasing the refreshed merchandise collection and energetic performances by The Monash Street Dance Society in the new apparel.
