MIPO Biorefinery Lab was established in 2018 to lead innovation in the use of bioresources such as plant oils and biomass for food, feed, renewable chemicals, and biofuels. With expert staff, strong industry ties, and advanced facilities, MIPO delivers practical solutions from research to scale-up. Research Areas

Our research spans the full value chain of biorefinery, from discovery to commercialisation. We specialise in oils and fats, proteins, and carbohydrates from various sources such as plants, microbes, microalgae, and industrial by-products. We integrate advanced analytical tools, process engineering, and product innovation to create sustainable biorefinery solutions.

Discovery

We use advanced tools to discover and analyse lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates, for exploring their potential use in food, health, fuel, and other industrial applications.

Processing

We develop, optimise, and scale up processes, from upstream to downstream, to produce intermediates or end products for industrial use.

Formulation & Bioassays

We turn discoveries into end products through advanced formulation and evaluate their effectiveness with product testing and bioassays.
