- What is a virtual run?
A virtual run can be completed anytime and anywhere, even indoors on a treadmill.
- How does our virtual run work?
Register yourself here, complete the distance anytime and anywhere you desire and upload your run results with us.
- Can anyone participate?
It’s only applicable to our alumni from Monash University, Sunway University or College KL of all ages and ability levels.
- Can I walk? Do I have to complete the entire distance all at once?
We call our event a “run” but walkers are certainly welcome!
You may break up your run into multiple segments as we understand that not everyone is able to complete our minimum 10km distance in one outing. So, set your daily goal & motivate yourself while raising money for a great cause in the process.
- How do I track distance and time my run?
You are advised to use the Strava app to track & record your run results. The Strava app is available for iPhone and Android devices & you may download it from your Appstore.
- How do I upload my run results?
By using the Strava app, you can record your run & save the activity with the privacy setting of ‘Everyone can see’. To record your run, choose ‘Run’ mode & click ‘Start’ to record your it. Once you have completed your run, click ‘Finish’ & it will show your running route & time. The run results will be shown on your home & club’s feed.
If you are running on a treadmill, take a photo of your dashboard & post your run results on the Strava app by adding a ‘Manual Activity’.
- When do I submit my run results?
You are required to submit your results on the Strava app after each run between 1 to 31 August 2020.
- What if I can’t complete my run during the run period?
If you registered but could not reach our minimum 10km distance, your run results still contribute to the total target distance for the cause but we regret to inform you that the e-certificate will not be given.
- Should I still submit my run results even after I have met the minimum 10km distance?
Yes, you are still required to record your run results on the Strava app to calculate the total accumulated distance for the donation and also to award the Top 10 Longest Distance runners.
- How do I create a Strava app account?
Strava app account is free to sign up & you may sign up with your email. Please change your time zone under your profile settings to ensure your run results can be recorded accurately.
- What is ‘Monash-Sunway Alumni Charity V-Run’ Club on Strava app?
It’s a platform for our participants to share their run results & to keep our alumni updated on the event. A weekly leaderboard will show the total and longest distance run by the participants.
- How do I join the ‘Monash-Sunway Alumni Charity V-Run’ Club on Strava app?
We will send the invitation link in the confirmation email or you can search for ‘Monash-Sunway Alumni Charity V-Run’ under Explore Clubs. Admin will approve your join request within 24hours on working days.
- Are there any hidden fees such as shipping cost?
It is complimentary for our alumni to participate in the run & there is no shipping cost incurred for the medal delivery within Malaysia.
- What is ‘Kakak’?
Kakak is an NGO co-founded by a Sunway University alumni and supported by Monash University volunteers. Kakak aims to empower refugees by providing job opportunities and concurrently help Malaysians with domestic services through a one-stop digital platform. In light of the Covid-19 virus outbreak, Kakak is now working on providing humanitarian aid to refugees impacted. For more info, you may check on https://www.facebook.com/kakak.services/
- How does my run contribute to the donation to ‘Kakak’?
For every 100km achieved cumulatively, RM100* (Up to a maximum of RM2000) will be donated to aid refugees in the Sunway area through Kakak. The further you run, the more support they receive!
