Why did you choose to major in Biotechnology?

My favourite subjects back in high school were Biology and Chemistry. Because of that, I chose Monash to study a Biotech degree to continue being curious and passionate about science.

How have your studies helped to prepare you for the working world?

It provided a great international recognised degree/foundation (or even a springboard) for my further academic career path to pursue my PhD at Max Planck Institute, Germany and post-doctorate at the University of Cambridge, UK. Collectively, all these experiences led to my successful transition from academia to industry in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nutrition spaces.

Did you participate in any student activities or opportunities?

I went on a student exchange to Monash’s Clayton campus for a year

Did you go for internships or work placements?

Before heading back home from Australia, I worked in a research lab at the Australian National University in Canberra under the Summer Research Scholarship program. The opportunity confirmed my passion for a scientific career as well as enhanced my exposure to the international research world.

What did you enjoy most about your student life?

My international experience as an exchange student in Australia and the opportunity to make friends from all around the world. I am still in contact with one of my best friends from Canada!

What are your career goals?

I would like to be in the driver’s seat to lead innovative projects in the field of microbiome science to improve the quality of a healthy lifestyle. I also aim to contribute to the advancement of the life sciences industry in the Southeast Asia region.
