Why did you choose to study MCMS, and how has it helped you in your workplace so far?

Online media has gone through unprecedented changes over the past few years and while this has had both positive and negative repercussions, it is undeniable that understanding the ways online media is being used/manipulated can help us make sense of the bigger picture. Inquisitive by nature and a knowledge seeker, following a degree in Fashion and Textiles, I embarked on a Master of Communications and Media Studies. The latter broadened my understanding of digital media and the social sciences surrounding it while allowing me to critically assess the use of online media in everyday practices. As a community manager, I am able to use my acquired knowledge towards better understanding the ways by which social media platforms can be used to our client's advantage in building and sustaining an audience.

What did you enjoy most about your student life?

Everything! And I’m not joking; but if I were to pick the best aspect of my student life at Monash, my answer would be attending classes. The teaching staff (shout out to Dr Julian Hopkins for having been an amazing lecturer/supervisor!) made learning an inspiring process and I am grateful for the knowledge and insights that I acquired throughout my one and a half years of study.

Did you participate in any student activities or opportunities while at Monash?

Volunteering is one the most humbling and eye-opening experiences and I’m glad that I volunteered at Bangsa Ria, a daycare centre for people with disabilities.

What are your career goals?

My research thesis during my Master of Communications and Media Studies paved the way for further research. I eventually intend to pursue a PhD and I envision a possible career in academia.
