Why did you decide to pursue the Bachelor of Pharmacy?

I’ve always had a passion for healthcare. With a strong aspiration in improving people’s health, I envisioned myself as part of a healthcare team in the future and therefore decided to pursue the Bachelor of Pharmacy. To me, pharmacy is an exciting career choice which does not only create a real impact on patient care; it also offers many interesting opportunities in a myriad of professional settings such as hospitals, community pharmacies and the pharmaceutical industry.

How was your learning experience at Monash?

Studying at Monash has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience to me! I enjoyed the learning styles and modules which constantly encouraged me to be an independent thinker, challenged me to strive for excellence and prepared me for the real-world setting. I loved the wide array of opportunities that Monash offered, ranging from the student exchange program to the extensive research opportunities and the diverse co-curricular activities.

Above all, the experience of studying abroad at the Parkville campus was the best experience I’ve had. Being immersed in a country of diverse cultural backgrounds was really eye-opening. I learnt to thrive outside of my comfort zone, thus giving me an incredible opportunity for personal growth. It has positively changed the way I viewed the world and how I live my life today!

Where did you go for your Professional Experience Placement program? How has this experience made a difference for you?

During the course of my Professional Experience Placement program, I’ve had clinical placements in various settings, including hospitals, a community pharmacy and a rural clinic. The hands-on experience was absolutely valuable and fulfilling to me as I could apply the knowledge obtained in classes in a real-world setting and explore the diverse roles of a pharmacist in different professional settings.  Overall, the placement gave me the firsthand opportunity to learn about clerking cases in hospitals, dealing with people from all walks of life in the community pharmacy and dispensing medicine under the supervision of a preceptor in a rural clinic.

What other opportunities did you participate in while at Monash?

Throughout my university life, I always kept an open mind in exploring and grabbing the opportunities that Monash had to offer. In 2015, I participated in the AIESEC organisation as an AIESECer. I was also involved in various events organised by the Malaysian Pharmacy Students' Association (MyPSA) such as Young Entrepreneur Program (YEP) 2016, MyPSA Career Talk 2017; as well as Malaysian Innovative Healthcare Symposium (MIHS) 2016 under Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society-Young Pharmacist Chapter (MPS-YPC).

In terms of working experience, I had the privilege to be a research assistant at the Sunway Medical Centre in January 2015 and Monash University in January 2016. I worked as an intern in a multinational pharmaceutical company, MSD in January 2017.

What did you enjoy most about your student life?

I really love and appreciate all the passionate people that I’ve met at Monash, including my peers, lecturers and staff.  They provided me with a supportive environment to improve myself and learn together as a team. This inspired me to work towards my goal as a competent healthcare provider!
