Why did you choose Monash?

I chose Monash because it is one of the most reputable and well-known universities, especially for pharmacy studies. Monash was ranked second in the world for pharmacy, next to Harvard, in 2018. Monash has always maintained its standard throughout the years and it is clear from the successful graduates that it has produced.

What did you enjoy most about your student life?

I am very grateful for the opportunities that Monash has given me throughout my journey as a student. The thing I loved most about Monash is that they try to inculcate important skills and knowledge very early on in the degree. To me, this is the reason why Monash students or graduates stand out from the rest. Monash does not only prepare its students for academic achievement, they also expose students to face the real world that comes after studies.

Did you participate in any student activities or opportunities?

I joined a few programs while at Monash, mainly career talks. These programs inspired me to consider different opportunities and also helped me to become more outspoken and courageous. I realised that after joining these programs, I was more open to new opportunities that came my way and I was no longer afraid to step out of my comfort zone.

Did you go for any internships or work placements?

Yes, I have gone for a number of placements. These experiences made a difference to me in terms of career preparation. It made me realize that what we study and how we practice as pharmacists in real life are totally different. Instead of just studying through reading books and attending lectures, I was given the opportunity to deal with actual patients. I got to learn more because I am able to apply and practice what I learnt in class instead of merely memorising everything. Being assigned to different settings also made me more culturally aware, sensitive and more empathetic, which are qualities that are very crucial for a pharmacist to have. At the end of the day, how I practice as a pharmacist is what matters most (not just my academic performance).

What are your career goals, or what impact would you like to have in the future?

My main career goal is to be able to help those in need, especially in terms of healthcare. As far as possible, I would like to make sure that everyone receives the same level of care, despite all the differences in background, race and socioeconomic status. Apart from that, I also hope to be successful and be the best at what I’m doing.
