If you’re currently working, please tell us about your role in your organisation.

As an experienced Chief Embryologist in Malaysia, I've navigated the unique challenges and regulations within the region's fertility industry. My role has involved not only overseeing daily laboratory operations but also collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans for patients. I've stayed abreast of advancements in reproductive technologies and adhered to stringent quality standards to achieve optimal success rates. Additionally, I've provided mentorship and training to junior staff, contributing to the growth and expertise of our fertility clinics.

Why did you choose to study Medical Bioscience?

I have always wanted to work in healthcare and at that time, medical bioscience was relatively new in Malaysia. So, I believed that this could lead me to many different opportunities in the future.

What type of opportunities did you participate in at Monash?

I was part of the Welfare team in MUSA, and we had lots of fun organising activities for all the students back then. I also joined the bowling team and represented Monash in MAPCU. Although we didn’t win, it was for good fun. I was also on the exchange programme at the Clayton campus in Melbourne back in 2012.

Did you go for any internships or work placements? If so, where and did the experience help you in terms of career preparation?

Yes, I had a three-month internship in KPJ Johor, where I was a specialist and learnt about the handling of biological samples.

What did you enjoy most about your student life at Monash?

The thing I enjoyed the most about Monash is the diverse student body and the opportunities for international study and exchange programs. The time in Melbourne was one of the most memorable experiences I had during my study in Monash. I really do miss the Monash culture so much that I even did my Masters in Clinical Embryology in Monash again in 2020!

What is your biggest career goal, or what is the difference you’d like to make?

I am very fortunate to be in a position where I could quite literally make a change in someone’s life. We are in the field of reproduction, where our day-to-day task is to create human lives! I couldn’t imagine anything more exciting than this. This is an ever-changing field where there is something new to be discovered everyday.
